Every Sunday in Rome, at the Città dell'Altra Economia (CAE), in the former slaughterhouse of Testaccio, there is a sale of clothes that supports the project 'Vesto e investo solidale' by Roma Open Labs APS. The clothes donated by companies are transformed into concrete help for people in disadvantaged conditions, such as the 5,7 million people registered by Istat as living in absolute poverty. (1) Gas cylinders, food, the clothes themselves give relief to those who cannot afford to buy them. (2)
I dress and invest socially, a solidarity network
The initiative It required a long work, carried out without pauses by Luca Zarfati, passionate president of Roma Open Labs. The collaboration with the Social Department PRO LOCO EPLI and UNOE (National Union of Event Organizers), and the support of Égalité Ets, the social cooperative Egalitech, Agci (General Association of Italian Cooperatives) were invaluable.
The generosity of companies who donate unsold, out-of-season, faulty or sample clothes to Roma Open Labs is the engine of the virtuous circle. In addition to providing goods to sell to raise funds, the gesture triggers a process of recycling and recovery of goods otherwise destined for waste. An example of a far-sighted solidarity circular economy.
