#Buycott! palm oil, GMO soybeans and American meats. The ABC of campaign launched by Égalité together with the independent information portal GIFT (Great Italian Food Trade). The Association of Virtuous Municipalities e Disability Pride Italia Onlus are the first to join.
#Buycott is a public awareness campaign to social and environmental disasters - robbery of the lands and deforestation - of which the supply chains ofPalm oil e of GMO soy have been the first cause for years. The meat of the American continent are also the subject of #Buycott, for the reasons mentioned above in South America and for the breeding practices of the whole incompatible with our standards, in Canada and the USA.
We join #Buycott with a drastic and cohesive determination, every day, in our purchasing and consumption choices:
A) palm tree. We replace every product (food, cosmetic, household cleaning) that contains palm oil with the corresponding ones'without palm oil’,
B) GMO soy. We choose foods of animal origin (meat, eggs, dairy products) that offer guarantees of a supply chain 'GMO Free'(or'100% Italian no GMO supply chain'),
C) meats American. We claim to know the origin of meats even when they are served by canteens and restaurants, we stop the consumption of those without guarantees on the origin and feed used.
The participation of civil society it is essential to definitively consolidate the result achieved on the palm and extend its reach to GMO soybeans and manifestly unsustainable meats. So that once again the pressure from below can impose a substantial change in the market offer. To protect indigenous communities, the ecosystem and citizens of the world.
The Virtuous Municipalities Association e Disability Pride Italia Onlus are the first organizations to have joined. Their statements follow.
'Monocultures as palm oil and soy are consuming the planet and with the increase of the population the situation can only get worse, if we do not immediately take action. It is now established that there is a close relationship between the consumption of meat, palm oil and soy intended for animal feed and the deforestation of large areas of the planet. Italy is among the main European countries responsible for the deforestation of the Amazon precisely because of these three products. We need to review our eating habits and pay attention to the origin of the products we choose'(Marco Boschini, Virtuous Municipalities Association, spokesperson)
'Fires that are devastating the Amazon these days add to the indiscriminate cutting of large portions of the forests that supply oxygen to the planet. We strongly adhere to the #Buycott campaign. The change starts with the gesture of each of us'(Carmelo Comisi, Disability Pride Italia Onlus, president).
