Buycott palm oil, the Legambiente and Égalité campaign against the use of palm oil in fuels, power plants and food products, kicks off with a meeting in streaming Tuesday 19.1.21 at 17:30.
The appointment is aimed at sharing the severity and extent of the damage to the ecosystem caused by the production and consumption of huge quantities of palm oil which every year is burned as a fuel and consumed as a food ingredient. With the invitation to adopt responsible consumer choices.
Every year, we consume approximately 1,6 million tons of palm oil. On an individual level, per capita consumption in Italy varies between 5 and 135 kg. In relation to the choices - even unaware - of energy consumption and mobility, as well as food.
Average consumption per capita of palm oil in Italy is estimated at 36 kg / year, broken down as follows:
- 25 kg they are burned, half in diesel engines and the other half in power plants. Even in those that provide definite energy green,
- 7-8 kg about are placed in food,
- 3 kg they end up in shampoo, detergents, fabric softeners and cosmetics.
Reduce consumption of palm oil is possible, through conscious choices. To follow the useful indications.
Diesel fuel for cars. Avoid the biodiesel ENIdiesel +, which contains about 12% palm oil.
Electric energy. Choose as a supplier a 'green' operator that uses only renewable sources of hydroelectric, solar and wind energy.
Foods. Giving up on pretzels e brioche at the bar (almost always with palm oil) and check the ingredient list of packaged foods. More details here.
Health. Favor the soaps with olive oil, do not waste bubble baths and detergents.
The argument it is deepened on Tuesday 19.1.21, from 17,30 to 19 in the event on line organized by Legambiente on teams, to be accessed via this link.
