From language to medicine, the androcentric approach is still dominant. How to overcome the abuse of male gender interests is the underlying theme of the series of seminars 'Innovation and transdisciplinarity for equality and inclusion' organized in Rome by 'donna, Immagine città', a community for the promotion of equal opportunities and contrast to stereotypes.
The first date (16 February 2024, 15pm-19pm) is dedicated to the importance of gender medicine and the deleterious effects of the androcentric approach in terms of repercussions on women's health and quality of life.
'Gender medicine It does not only concern women's health, nor is it exclusively focused on diseases of the reproductive organs, but is concerned with diseases that can affect both sexes. It is a new level of analysis to be included in all existing areas of medicine', explain the organizers.
In the context of work and in accident prevention the planning is blatantly exclusionary for anyone who is not male and white.
A good part of the protective devices individual and many work tools are designed with respect to the morphological characteristics of males. Thus, it may happen that masks and protective glasses are not suitable for women's faces, causing cuts or poor adhesion to the face with a consequent increase in risks. The standard is often not only male but also white and therefore the risks are further accentuated if the woman is of Afro-descendant or Asian origin.
The series of meetings It acts as a platform for discussion and dialogue between different disciplinary and professional sectors to trace a collaborative path aimed at achieving the objective of formulating good practices and common guidelines that can promote equality and inclusion.
Every event it is organized into talks given by academics, professionals, activists and politicians followed by a debate.
The other two appointments in the program address other areas in which inclusion is lacking:
– Cities and design of gender and inclusive language, 22 March 2024,
– Economy and finance, new technologies and artificial intelligence for inclusion, 19 April 2024.
The community 'woman, image city' is founded by:
– Integronomy, research and training in ergonomics / human factors engineering and sustainability
– INBB, National Institute of Biostructures and Biosystems, Inter-university Consortium
