Gli fire in the Amazon, last summer, are the symbol of a phenomenon that has been going on for decades. Indigenous communities are driven from their lands and virgin forests are destroyed to make way for monocultures of GMO soybeans and palm oil. Besides to extend the pastures of cattle, in Latin america. But the international politics remains indifferent to these phenomena, which have continued undisturbed for decades.
The socio-environmental impact of land grabbing, deforestation, oil palm monocultures and GM soybeans is devastating. Ecocides and the rarefaction of biodiversity are added to international crimes against humanity. In addition to greenhouse gas emissions, that accelerate climate change. Without forgetting theabuse of pesticides that dries up the soils, poisons ecosystems and populations.
Égalité Onlus e GIFT (Great Italian Food Trade), on 4.8.19, therefore launched the campaign #buycott! GM soy, palm oil and American meats,
with the aim of reducing the international demand for goods deriving from bloody and incendiary supply chains. So that the land robbers and landowners, i ruralists and the palmocrats, lose interest in carrying out their crimes.
The petition #buycott it aspires to gather a drastic and cohesive determination, of the citizens and consumers of the planet, to safeguard the indigenous populations and ecosystems afflicted by these productions. We must change our daily purchasing and consumption choices, and demand the offer of alternative products - even better if organic - that derive from truly fair and sustainable supply chains:
A) palm tree. We replace every product (food, cosmetic, household cleaning) that contains palm oil with the corresponding ones'palm oil free ',
B) GMO soy. We choose foods of animal origin (meats and cured meats, farmed fish, eggs, dairy products) that offer guarantees of a supply chain 'GMO Free', asking their producers to make specific commitments towards the complete elimination of GM soybeans from all their supply chains. Elimination can be progressive, but must follow a schedule as short as possible,
C) American meats. We claim to know the origin of meats even when they are served by canteens and restaurants, we reject those that come from the American continent where cloning is devoid of rules and traceability, animals are treated with synthetic, anabolic hormones and prohibited drugs, feed they are based on GMOs and animal flours.
#Basta! GMO soy, palm oil and American meats, let's avoid these unsustainable supply chains, #NotInOurName!
